Wow, so it has been 1 and a half months since I wrote last. OOOPS.
Well Reid had his 4 month appointment on March 20th. He weighed 16 lbs and was in the 70th percentile for weight; he is good and chunky:) He was 25.5 inches long which is the 60th percentile. He is at this moment 4 and a half months old. He is starting to act like a baby, smiling and reacting to us. He is really starting to be able to grip things and hold on. Yesterday he pulled his sock off for the first time, which is the end of not stretched out socks as we know it. He is rolling over a lot from his back to his tummy. He then gets mad that he is there and I have to come rescue him, but it takes longer now than it used to. He is finally becoming a little more content on his tummy. He hasn't quite gotten the hang of the tummy to the back roll though, but he has done it a couple of times.
This week we switched to size 3 diapers which are a bit big on him, but fit. I also started putting him in our 6-9 month clothes which also fit better than I had anticipated. We will start talking about solid foods at 6 months. He is obviously not lacking in the nutrition department.
I noticed a couple of days ago that his hair is starting to fall out :( I found hair on the sheet where he sleeps, and when I run my fingers through it I get some. I thought we were past that, but I guess I will have a bald baby soon.
Last weekend I was walking down the stairs with Reid and slipped. I landed on my tail bone and my upper back hit the upper stair. I screamed for Erik, (who was dead asleep- it was 5AM) and scared him to death, he jumped out of bed and ran past us into Reid's room, so I said "no we are down here" and he came and took Reid who was fine just scared by my screaming. I was in a lot of pain. That was a long day at work. My back still hurts and if I catch my tail bone just right when I sit, it elicits a scream. Dr. D- my chiropractor has been taking good care of me and hopefully I will be normal soon. Things like that make you realize that you can't handle a fall like you could when you were younger...
Reid LOVES reading. We will sit down with 7 books and he will pay attention the whole time. We have been reading Raffi's songs to read; The Wheels on the Bus, Baby Beluga, Down by the Bay, and 5 Little Ducks. Also Sandra Boynton's Pajama Time, Barnyard Dance, Moo Baa La La La. We also read Brown Bear Brown Bear and Good Night Moon. So lately I have been making reading part of our going to sleep routine. It seems to be working. I also bought a CD of waterfall sounds to play in his room which seems to help him stay asleep longer. Our problem was that he was going to sleep okay- really easily in fact, but not staying asleep- which is frustrating. He has done really well this week taking 2 hour naps by himself in his crib. He is still sleeping with us at night, but I am not ready to part with that yet. As wholistic and alternative as Dr. Miles is, she was not impressed with our co-sleeping which surprised me. She basically said we can get him out now or in 5 years. My biggest concern is if we don't do it now it will be traumatic later. So it is a work in progress, we are doing the transition in stages.
In other news, we have hardwood floors now, which look lovely. We could not be happier with them. We are still waiting on some transition pieces, which is annoying. The place where we bought the wood has turned out to be less than cooperative. We also got a new dining room table today which actually has 4 chairs. Those of you who have been to our house know we have been flying with 3 for a while, which is fine until company comes. We are starting to feel like grown-ups;)
Work is going well for me, there is never a dull moment. I finally feel like I am getting the hang of it and am starting to be on top of things instead of drowning in everything. I had my first true emergency a few weeks ago. One of my patients was showing every sign of pre-eclampsia, which is a state caused by pregnancy that basically causes your body to malfunction. It starts with high blood pressure, continues to do damage to the kidney and liver, and ends with a seizure, after which it becomes eclampsia and can lead to even more problems. Unfortunately, I caught the end when my patient had a seizure. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. We had to immediately take her to the OR where we waited for the anesethesiologist and the OB so we could do a c-section. She was very combative after the seizure and it took 6 of us to hold her down so she would'nt fly off the bed. They ended up doing the c-section. Her baby was too early at 31 weeks but did well. I saw her the following week and she looked very good. I got to learn a lot about paper work as well as how to handle an emergency.
Well that is all for now, I will try to keep up with this so there is not as much at one time.
Cheers,
Jenny
